At Minimbah State School, we proudly use the Reboot approach to support every child's wellbeing and learning.
Reboot is a whole-school framework that helps students understand their emotions, behaviour, and how their brains work — all in a way that's simple, practical and positive. It gives our staff and students a common language and set of tools to create a calm, happy, and productive school environment.
Students learn about the three parts of the brain that help them respond to challenges:
- The Wild Brain (fight, flight or freeze) – which reacts when we feel unsafe or overwhelmed.
- The Emotional Brain – where our big feelings live and where we begin to process what's going on.
- The Smart Brain – which helps us make good choices, solve problems and learn.
Through Reboot, students are taught how to move from their Wild Brain into their Smart Brain using simple strategies like breathing, movement, reflection, and talking to a trusted adult. This helps them stay calm, focused and ready to learn.
At Minimbah, we also have dedicated learning zones across our classrooms that support students in recognising how they're feeling and what they need to be successful. These zones give children safe and respectful options to manage their emotions and get back on track with their learning.
In addition, we offer a purposefully designed Reboot Room — a calm, supportive space where students can take a short break to self-regulate or co-regulate with our trained staff. This room helps students reset when they're feeling overwhelmed and return to class ready to learn and participate.
By embedding Reboot into our daily school life, Minimbah is creating a safe, supportive and consistent environment where all children feel valued — and where their social, emotional and academic success is supported every step of the way.
We will be offering parent sessions to support our community in implementing strategies at home.
