At Minimbah State School, student wellbeing is supported by a professional team that includes a Guidance Officer and a Psychologist. They work closely with students, teachers, support staff, families, and external specialists and agencies for more complex needs.  At Minimbah State School we have a fulltime Guidance Officer and our Psychologist is at our school three days per week.

Role of the Guidance Officer

The Guidance Officer offers:

  • Interim counselling, student check ins and individual student support
  • Psychoeducational assessments
  • Assistance in identifying and addressing barriers to learning
  • Support for students to reach their potential in the most appropriate educational setting
  • Provide information, resources, referral and support for families
  • Provide specialised assistance during critical incidents, emergencies, or student protection matters

Role of the Psychologist

The Psychologist offers:

  • One on one therapeutic support.  This is a short-term service only.
  • Supports students with mild to moderate concerns that may be impacting the school and/or home environment
  • Available via referral only through Guidance Officer

Accessing Support

Support from the wellbeing team is available by referral only. In most cases, concerns should first be discussed with your child's classroom teacher, who can initiate a referral for support or assessment.  Alternatively, parents can contact the school administration to request an appointment with the Guidance Officer to discuss confidential matters directly.
