Minimbah State School offers curious minds from years 2 to 6 the chance to participate in hands-on STEM extension activities through our robotics programmes. Students learn valuable skills in teamwork, problem solving, coding and engineering as they use LEGO Mindstorms kits in a variety of exciting challenges and competitions throughout the year.
Our junior robotics club is for students in years 2 and 3. They work in small groups to build moving LEGO models to represent real-life situations, and use iPads to code their creations. The team participate in the FIRST LEGO League Explore event, which has a different topic each year for students to research and build. 2025 sees our junior team's return to FLL after a few years' break.
Students from years 4 to 6 can apply to join our senior robotics team. These students prepare, build and code their way through three events each year:
- Moreton Regional ROBOlympics competition in term 2 at Moreton Downs State School
- Minimbah State School Robotics Showcase in term 3 in our assembly hall
- FIRST LEGO League Challenge event in term 4, held at various locations
Our dedicated robotics students meet twice a week during their playtime. In term 4 they also catch up once a week after school to prepare for FLL.
