The Special Education Program

The Special Education Program (SEP) supports students in all year levels from Prep to 6 in all disability areas including:

  • Intellectual Impairment
  • Speech Language Impairment
  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder
  • Vision Impairment
  • Physical Impairment
  • Hearing Impairment

The SEP team consists of:

  • Head of Special Education Services (HOSES), SEP Teachers, Educational Assistants and Part time Administrative Officer

The Special Education Program runs under a Case Management system in which each Special Needs teacher is allocated a case load of students based on the level of need; and year level clustering. The Case Manager is responsible for all aspects of the support surrounding each of their students.

Students with disabilities are supported in a variety of ways. All students are an integral part of the school community participating in regular classrooms. Special Education teachers and teacher aides work collaboratively with classroom teachers to adjust learning environments to assist students to succeed. Visiting specialist teachers also support students to achieve their goals and participate in regular classroom activities.

  • In-Class Support (Teacher Aides)
  • Incidental Student Support & Debriefing
  • Social Skills Programs
  • Transition Programs (pre-Prep, new year level and high school)
  • Literacy/ Numeracy Programs
  • Verification
  • Working with Parents
  • Supporting class teachers to make adjustments to teaching and planning
  • Behaviour Management
