Minimbah Escapes to Everywhere to Celebrate Book Week

Our Prep students enjoyed their first book week!
Minimbah has been revelling in children’s literature last week through parades of costumes, book fairs and reading activities.  Celebrating this year’s book week theme ‘Escape to Everywhere’, students and teachers were able to enjoy all that stories have to offer.  Festivities have included a book week costume parade in which the whole school was involved.  It was great to see so many children, with help from their parents, and teachers making an effort to celebrate books through fun and creative ways.  There was an extensive range of book characters on display, from red fish and blue fish to old fish and new fish. Where’s Wally was the first to be found along with blue sheep, red sheep, yellow sheep and green sheep were also spotted, as well as hungry caterpillars, coloured crayons and aliens in underpants.  The characters from Alice in Wonderland also made an appearance!  As each year level paraded, students and teachers were able to appreciate the creativity of others and value how much the imagination can be exercised through reading.  Gift certificates for books were handed out to the best dressed character in each year level and the best dressed teachers.

Students have had opportunities each day, before and after school and during lunch breaks, to visit the school library to read their favourite stories, buy new books and listen to storytellers reading beloved tales.  Making an appearance throughout the week have been guest readers, local Councillor Adrian Raedel and Constable Krystal Shultz from Burpengary Police Station, as well as various staff who have freely given up their time to visit the school to read stories to the children.

It has been such an exciting week here at Minimbah and we cannot wait until next year for the next book week,we cannot wait to see what characters come to Minimbah then.
